Get to know me
Hi! My name is Rebecca Downie – I’m a specialist maternity, newborn, baby, toddler and family photographer across West Sussex, including all local areas such as Reigate, Gatwick, Haywards Heath, East Grinstead, Horsham and surrounding areas. I also specialise in baby and hand and foot casting or impressions which are framed beautifully.
I offer a unique service…a complimentary photo shoot in the comfort of your own home. I am a Lindfield, Haywards Heath, West Sussex based newborn photographer who travels across Sussex and into Surrey and Kent. This is especially important for those precious newborn days. Mummy is much more relaxed, and therefore so is baby making it easier to capture those sleepy curled up newborn images we all love.
I am also a member of Baby and Newborn Photography Association (BANPAS), which supports baby and newborn photographers across the UK and promotes safe working practices. I am fully trained in the art of newborn safety within photography.
You can find out more about me and my work via facebook and other social media by clicking on the icon above.
How does it work?
- I will bring my mini studio to you. I schedule appointments in the morning as baby is more settled.
- Sessions run at baby’s pace and therefore are around 3 hours.
- Your baby is the main focal point of your session.
- I use minimal props and outfits to ensure your images are timeless and all about your baby.
- I will not rush any baby and I follow their lead, I allow this time as you can never predict a newborn baby’s sleep or mood.
Following your baby’s photo session we will be able to view on the day. No waiting around or second appointments. I will bring with me my beautiful samples and together we can pick the best images for your choices of finished products. All products and images are to be chosen at this time.

When is the best time to book and get newborn or baby photos taken?
I love photographing newborns and capturing amazing memories for my families. Every newborn photo shoot is unique and will go at baby’s pace. Newborns are best photographed between 3-10 days new. During this time the babies will usually retain some of the natural curl from when they were in the womb. The first week works best to get peaceful, sleepy and very curly poses.
When you book we will pencil in your due date and then we can agree the time and date when little one has arrived. I can only book limited number of newborns into my diary each month as we don’t know when they are going to arrive!
A £50 non refundable deposit is required in order to secure your booking.
This will be deducted from your final order.
Maternity “Bump” photo shoot
Pregnancy can be hard on some women, and we definitely earn our warrior badges for growing a little person. There is a strong connection between mother and baby and to capture that before they even make an appearance is a wonderful way to celebrate you and your amazing body (even if you aren’t feeling amazing right now!)
The best time to capture your bump is between 32-36 weeks pregnant. At this stage you have hopefully regained some energy, your bump is nice and round but you can still move around fairly easily. Partners are most welcome in the shoot. If you feel self-conscious please do not worry as there are many ways we capture the bump and, if you wish, edit out any marks or blemishes.
As with the newborn photo shoot I ask for a £50 deposit.
I offer an affordable “10 digitals” package for £229 when booked with a newborn photo shoot
Families and siblings
Siblings are welcome in both maternity and newborn sessions – and I am always happy to capture family portraits within your sessions. Do advise me in advance so we can plan in it. That first family photo, or the early blossoming of a sibling bond is wonderful to capture.
As they grow
I am the preferred photographer for many of my clients, revisting the families many times. I also offer complimentary 3, 6 month shoots as well as first birthday sessions (portrait, cake smash, or paint splash) as well as older toddlers and family groups. As with maternity and newborn there are many ways you can chose to display your favourite images and discounted digital packages are available for repeat clients.
“Rebecca was great, our son was 8 days old when she came and we hadn’t long been out of hospital. Rebecca handled Dylan with such care and even though he was initially grouchy managed to get him calm and positioned. We were pleased with our final canvas and digital photos and that we went ahead and captured this precious time with our newborn.”
“We couldn’t be happier with the photographs taken by Rebecca and the finished presentation frame which she delivered today. Rebecca was fantastic during the shoot, she was so patient and her attention to detail was amazing. I really liked the fact that the shoot took place in our home and Rebecca really went at the pace of our little ones. We also got to see the images straight away which was a real treat.
Rebecca was also super accommodating when the original session had to be postponed due to our little boy getting chicken pox. The newborn stage goes by so quickly it is lovely to have these images forever. We will definitely be booking again when our babies are a little older.”
” Rebecca took some newborn photos of our son. Not only have the photographs been even more perfect than anticipated we would like to thank her for the whole experience. Being a brand new mum and letting a stranger hold and move your baby around to photograph was all a bit scary! But when we met Rebecca she immediately put us at ease and worked around Ezra making sure he was comfortable and calm at all times. She kept a hand on him during the shoot all the time she could to make sure he felt secure and was really aware of his needs throughout. Thank you for some wonderful photos, we cant even believe he was that small, lovely memories – would highly recommend.”
