FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do we know you are the photographer for us?
I love it when clients pop in to say hello and ask this question. You can have a good look around the studio. I’ll encourage you to have a good look at everything on the walls and see what designs you love and can imagine in your home. I’ll talk over how booking in works and how we schedule your session.
Drop me an email if you would like to arrange a visit. The studio is closed whilst I’m shooting or training another photographer, but if you’re just passing do try the door. I’d be delighted to show you around.
I love my studio in Chester le Street, Durham – it is very cosy and provides a beautiful natural light for me to work in. It’s my little haven and designed to be comfortable and homely for families and your little people. I’m sure that you’ll like it too.
Why do I need to book so early?
I recommend booking as early as your first scan to avoid disappointment as I can only book a certain number of newborn sessions each month. £25 deposit required when booking your due date in, this simply comes off whatever you choose for home but will secure a space in the month you are due – we can then firm up a date and time when little one arrives. Newborn photography sessions are ideally held before your baby is three weeks old, so there is only a very small window of time that you have to capture those gorgeous sleeping baby pictures.
If you don’t book until nearer the time of your baby arriving, or even until after your baby is born, there is less likelihood that I will have sessions available in those crucial first few weeks.
That said, please do still get in touch if you are further along in your pregnancy or have already had your baby. I will always do my very best to see if I can add an extra appointment where possible.
What if my baby arrives early or goes into NICU/SCBU?
If your baby has been born earlier or later than expected we will arrange your appointment to suit. Simply let me know when baby is born and do stay in touch. Birth plans rarely turn out as you had hoped and baby almost always comes when they see fit.
Stay in touch, then, I’ll look forward to seeing you in the studio as soon as you and your baby are ready.
Why does a Newborn Shoot take so long?
Every baby is different. Even at such a young age their little character shines through.
Ideally, you’ll arrive at the studio with baby due to feed & drift off to sleep, some babies need plenty of milk and cuddles before they are happy to settle down to sleep, which is fine. There is absolutely no rush, we will go at baby’s pace. That’s why I allow for around two – three hours per newborn session, although sometimes it can take less or more time than that.
Can I bring other members of my family with me to the photo shoot?
Yes, of course you can. I can comfortably accommodate a maximum of four adults and baby’s siblings in the studio, so you are welcome to bring others with you if you wish. Many new parents bring a grandparent along.
What can I expect from during our newborn photo shoot?
You can expect a memorable experience full of laughter and sometimes tears. I’d love to hear all about your birth story.. We will see your little one’s character shine through as I move them into position. They will either love to be soothed and pampered or put up a little fight wanting hands or feet to be in the wrong places. If I say black they say white. My eldest was like this from day one.
What should I wear for our photo shoot?
I recommend you wear cool and comfortable clothing, as the studio will be nice and warm for your little baby. I love it when parents wish to be included in family images. Its important to exist in photos, I am a firm believer in this! Neutral colours and tones always photograph well and please avoid logos and patterns on shirts, however for timeless classic images skin on skin always looks best. For mum, a vest top where we can pull your straps down and for dad top off. Just in case there are any small accidents bringing an extra set of clothes is a good idea – for baby and yourselves!
Why do you NOT charge a sitting fee?
I choose not to charge a sitting fee unlike other photographers as I believe my images should speak for themselves. As a parent myself I don’t want to have a reputation for a hard sell, I want you to enjoy your experience with me in the studio and purchase whatever you choose for your home.
All photo products/images are purchased afterwards, and I will help you to choose from your photos and to select products that will best suit your home and lifestyle.
Do you offer free customer parking and how accessible is your photography studio?
Yes, there are free parking bays outside the studio and plenty of free parking on nearby residential streets. I am based inside Window to the Womb.
The photography studio is accessible for wheelchair users and for parents with pushchairs.
I look forward to welcoming you and your family to my Chester le Street photography studio, Durham. It is a privilege capturing moments that your family will treasure for a life time.
